Gua Sha

Our heart shaped facial Gua Sha massage tool is available in white or green jade.

Gua sha is a centuries-old traditional Chinese therapy renowned for its benefits in promoting overall well-being and skin health. The Gua Sha tool is used in  gentle stroke motions across the skin – a technique which is believed to stimulate circulation, release tension, aid in lymphatic drainage, resulting in improved complexion and reduced puffiness.

Gua Sha stems from an ancient Chinese therapy of scraping the skin with long and short strokes in order to bring more circulation to the area using a smooth stone instrument. The practice is intended to move stagnant "chi" or energy in the body that practitioners believed was the cause of inflammation. In modern days, Gua Sha is still used to promote circulation in the body but also on the face.

Apply a facial oil or moisturiser to the area you’ll be treating. This helps the Gua Sha tool glide smoothly over your skin and reduces the risk of irritation.

Hold the Gua Sha tool at a comfortable angle, usually at about a 15 to 45-degree angle to your skin.

Start with gentle pressure and gradually increase it as needed.

There are various techniques and strokes you can use with Gua Sha, depending on the area you’re treating. Common strokes include long, straight strokes, short, brisk strokes, and circular motions. Always stroke in one direction, typically upwards or outwards, rather than back and forth.

Focus on one area at a time, such as the forehead, cheeks, or jawline. Use gentle, overlapping strokes as you move the tool across each section of your face

Be cautious around delicate areas of the face, such as the eyes and lips

Gua Sha is meant to be a relaxing and therapeutic practice, so take your time and enjoy the process – spend a few minutes on each area, working slowly and mindfully.

After each use, clean your Gua Sha tool with soap and water or a gentle disinfectant to prevent bacteria buildup.

*For more de-puffing benefits, leave tools in the freezer for a few minutes before massaging the face. The coolness will help reduce puffiness.
